Common Questions
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PSYCHIATRIST AND A PSYCHOLOGIST?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental / emotional health. Most prescribe medications and some do therapy. Psychologists have graduate degrees in psychology. They often do therapy and sometimes do diagnostic testing.  Dr. Philippi is a psychiatrist -- she prescribes medications and does therapy (individual, couples and group).

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?

Because Dr. Philippi reserves the appointment time just for you (no double booking), her cancellation policy is 2 full business days notice. If you cancel later than this, you will be charged for the session, unless she is able to fill that time on short notice.

HOW DO I PAY?

Payment forms include cash, check, credit card, FSA (flexible spending account) or HSA (health savings account) cards. Payment is due at the time of service.  Upon request, Dr. Philippi can give you a "super bill" you can submit to your insurance. They send you a check for whatever portion they may reimburse.   If you would like to check ahead of time what your insurance will reimburse for an "out of network" doctor, contact us for the appropriate CPT codes and rates.

IS THERE AN OPTION TO DO THERAPY FOR A TIGHTER BUDGET?

Yes. Group therapy is approximately a third of the cost and an effective alternative to individual therapy. It is a great way to identify emotions, gain self-awareness, examine patterns of relating to others, and get support. If you are interested, please ask Dr. Philippi if there is an opening in a group that is appropriate for you.
